POLICY AND ADVOCACY OFFICER
ICCO’s Purpose: To work with others to create a world without poverty, injustice and exclusion.
The Policy Advocacy Officer is responsible to deliver coordinated policy, lobby, advocacy, analysis, and program design across ICCO’s priority issues in South America, particularly access and control of natural resources, economic empowerment and business & human rights, which results in the mobilization of resources.
REQUISITOS
In collaboration with the Lobby and Advocacy Unit in ICCO’s global office and the program officers of the different countries in the region develop and implement ICCO’s advocacy strategy in South America. This will include:
Liaising closely with other advocacy officer in other ICCO units, the program officers and the Regional Funding Officer in this regional office in the delivery of the advocacy strategy participate in conference calls, provide regular updates to other staff, tailor ICCO briefing materials to the SA context.
Representing ICCO Cooperation at lobbying/consultation meetings/conferences within political and government circles in the region and act as a media spokesperson on campaign and advocacy issues if required
Participating in relevant ICCO policy groups/discussions when required.
Supporting the design, planning and delivery of ICCO policy and advocacy events.
Maintain active membership of key networks and policy groups where appropriate.
Assist with the monitoring and evaluation of the impact of ICCO Cooperation’s policy and advocacy work and deliver regular analysis and updates for management and staff reports etc. as required.
Design, build and promote regional programs on Human Rights and Business/ Economic Empowerment and take the lead in responding to relevant calls for proposals
Develop and maintain partnership with relevant companies and other private sector partners and organization e.g. IDH and chambers of commerce
Act at all times in the best interests of ICCO Cooperation while continually promoting the vision and mission within all sections of the community, as well as the media and/ or at appropriate events as agreed.
Closely monitor the developments in SA particularly the establishment of the SA Economic Community.
Any other tasks within the scope of the role as directed and agreed.
Requirements
Good knowledge of issues related to land rights, economic empowerment and business and human rights and other key issues in the development sector.
Experience of lobbying within political and government sectors, business sectors and institutional donors.
Experience with Resource mobilization
Excellent communications oral & written English, presentation, interpersonal, influencing and negotiating skills for engaging with a wide variety of contacts.
Conceptual and analytical, Negotiation, networking, facilitation, communication and innovation skills.
Prepared to travel frequently up to 50 in the region.
EXPERIENCIA LABORAL
A proven track record of inputting into and delivering on successful policy & advocacy strategies within the development sector
FORMACIÓN ACADÉMICA
Relevant educational background in economic and social fields.
